Ken Iwai: Photography and Video • Visual Art
Ken graduated from Toho College in 1985 with a combined degree in Film and Broadcasting, after which he immediately began work as assistant to leading video artist, Daizaburo Harada (1985-87). He was commercial production manager and for major Tokyo-based TV-CF Production, TYO Production and Spoon Inc.
Ken launched his freelance photography career in 1990, which quickly led to solo and group exhibitions in Tokyo, New York and Europe. Editorial photography for various magazines--Esquire (portraits of Angela Bassett, bands Morphine and Deep Forest), Far Eastern Economic Review, Jazz Life, Marie Claire, Tokyo Journal and international in-flight and hotel magazines. In 1994, traveled to Germany as exclusive European tour photographer for musician Toshinori Kondo. Editorial work led to more work in the fashion and music industries--major Japanese fashion magazines, advertising, CD jackets, editorial and corporate photography for major clients and agencies, including  Dentsu Tokyo, Toshiba EMI, Victor Entertainment, MCA Victor, and Sony Music Entertainment.


Ken lived and worked in New York City from 1998 to 2002 and is fully bilingual. Currently engaged in freelance commercial, editorial, fashion and travel photography and expanding collection of international photographic essays. You can see his work on his homepage at
